Johannesburg Online Casinos South Africa

Johannesburg Online Casinos

Johannesburg. Jozi. Jo’burg. Whatever you want to call the economic centre of South Africa, we prefer eGoli – the City of Gold.

eGoli was founded and built on the discovery of some of the world’s largest veins of gold. You could say, quite rightly, that this was the actual city whose streets were paved with gold.

The city has grown to become the epicenter of business in South Africa. Every major local or international company that does business across the continent has a head office in this city that runs on commerce. Everything in eGoli is faster and bigger than the rest of country. And that goes for the casinos as well.

Johannesburg features some of South Africa’s biggest and most impressive casinos, casinos that are known by name across the land – Emperors Palace, Monte Casino, Gold Reef City – and for good reason. With the wealth that circulates through this city, the people need places where they can relax and unwind – and maybe flaunt a little of their riches.

There are four major casinos in the Greater Johannesburg area, all of which offer more than a gambling venue. These are entertainment centres for entire communities. They offer first class gambling experiences with all the slots and tables you could wish for, but they also appeal to families with cinemas, restaurants, hotels, shopping, video arcades, bowling, laser tag, sporting events, music and theatre events, and so much more.

Montecasino

Monte, as it is affectionately known, is a massive Tuscan-themed entertainment palace in the suburb of Fourways in the North of Johannesburg.

It’s a very upmarket destination that brings in crowds looking to spend time in the casino but also interested in fine dining at some of Johannesburg’s top restaurants (there are actually more than 40 restaurants, cafés and casual dining venues at Monte!). There is a huge variety of options for families that include cinemas, games arcades, ten-pin bowling, laser tag and seasonal events in the large, open-air plaza. Monte also features a comedy club and bars and two theatres for music or stage productions.

The Montecasino Bird Gardens are an amazing place to see different varieties of birds and reptiles with live demonstrations of some pretty intimidating raptors like owls and eagles.

Set apart from the main venue is the award-winning Palazzo Hotel, the epitome of luxury in the middle of the city, with a 4-star Southern Sun hotel overlooking the outdoor plaza in the main centre.

Emperors Palace

Situated in the East Rand, and a stone’s throw from O. R. Tambo International Airport, is another mega-entertainment centre – Emperors Palace or ‘The Palace of Dreams’.

While primarily focused on the gaming and conference/convention side of things – there are four different hotels on offer – Emperors Palace has a host of activities for the family and a casino that brings in thousands of visitors every week. This Roman-themed casino and entertainment venue evokes a feeling of the opulence and grandeur of the Las Vegas casinos and features theatres, fine dining, cinemas, a super-stylish Cocktail Bar and Craftorium and a sky bar on the roof of one of the hotels.

Emperors Palace also has a very cool historical walkthrough called The CODESA Walkway which takes along on South Africa’s journey to democracy. Interestingly, the talks that began the democratic process were held at what was then called the World Trade Centre, and what we now know as Emperors Palace.

Gold Reef City

Located just outside of the Johannesburg city centre, Gold Reef City is a recreation of a turn-of-the-century mining town. While the casino is quite small compared to the likes of Montecasino and Emperors Palace, it is very high end. Gold Reef City is more of a theme park than a casino and features two hotels, an authentic underground mine tour (not for the claustrophobic!), restaurants, theatres and a huge theme park with rollercoaster rides and water rides and adrenaline-pumping rides for all ages.

For those of a more cerebral nature, Gold Reef City also has an incredible train museum, science centre, history and process of gold mining tours and, of course, is home to the world-famous Apartheid Museum.

Silverstar Casino

One of Jozi’s newest casinos but fast becoming a popular attraction for visitors from all over the land, Silverstar Casino can be found on the West Rand, in the very open and undeveloped area of Muldersdrift (also very close to the Cradle of Humankind).

Silverstar is another Tsogo Sun development (the owners of Montecasino) and, much like Monte is an entertainment venue for the whole family. While everything centres around the impressive casino with its large variety of slots and table games, the options include dining, hotels, cinemas, theatres, bowling, laser tag and various events and shows.

The complex itself is centred on the fountains that are a focal point for everything at Silverstar.

One of the biggest features of this new and exciting casino complex – and a major attraction for tourists and visitors to the province – is its proximity to other activities. From Silverstar Casino it is quick and easy to make your way to some historical and archeologically important sites that take us back to our distant ancestors like the Sterkfontein Caves and the Cradle of Humankind as well as nature reserves like the Rhino and Lion Park.

These casino and entertainment complexes all bring in thousands of visitors on a daily basis. In peak times they can become quite overwhelming. So, for those gamblers who do not like crowds or who prefer to do their gaming while wearing their pyjamas, we also have the perfect places for you. No crowds, no extra costs, no having to dress up, no hassle: the online casinos for Johannesburg gamblers.
